CHALLENGE

Leave related to parenthood (maternity, educational) is a time of great adventure, but also challenges related to prioritization. A longer break at work makes young mothers (or fathers) reflect in setting goals for personal development. Meanwhile reality often verifies these plans, which it can provoke frustration and even lower self-esteem.

How to help new parents to reconcile their care a child with a sense of own development in City of Poznań?

My role

Background
SWPS studies project

Duration
10.2020 - 06.2021

MY ROLE

Most decision was made by multidisciplinary 5 members team. We had been walking through every steps of design process, and our roles was mixed. But in late phase I concentrated on UI design, interactions, animations and therefore often initiated discussions about details of the interface and screen-based UX design.

Following conception, I was responsible for designing and animating the user interface, while final visual design decisions were always made collaboratively.

Let’s meet the parents
The primary goal was to gain insight the parents' weekday looks like, how parents develop themself and what are obstacles to development.

During which we check strategy of Poznań city, Statistical office reports, Social insurrance institute plans etc. We also made research of support possibilites for parents on parental leave. In next stage we prepared and conducted in-depth interviews with parents on parental leave. Research sample: 10 people - 5 during and 5 after parental leave. Personal and Skype research.

DEFINE

Persona

how might we...
  • ... make it easier for people on parental leave to find time for personal development?
  • ... increase childcare support?
  • ... help rest effectively?

First ideas & analysis of market solutions
We started with analyze of market solutions. We have checked existing websites, Facebook groups, Nany's agencies and applications. We generated few ideas of possible solutions. We analysed every of them, compare with expectations, which response for our design challenge.
Social portal
Social portal for parents to exchange experiences. A compendium of knowledge with access to free development consultations. Remote Service Finder.

Why rejected?
There are many social apps on the market. Parents know where they can find the knowledge they need, so another social networking site is unnecessary. In addition, the application would take the parents' time, which they already have little.

Planner / schedule
Application for dynamic day planning and sharing responsibilities between partners / parents / grandparents. Calendar, checklists, notifications.

Why rejected?
If the parents had time, they could use it well and plan it. Parents know how to allocate responsibilities, so these types of tools could be a waste of time.

Path to goal
An application that allows to achieve goals step by step. Time wasted monitoring system. Mobile parent motivator.

Why rejected?
This type of application could frustrate parents as they would not have the time to complete the tasks they had planned. It could even demotivate to further actions.

Organize child care
An application that allows to organize childcare so that the parent can find some time for himself. Search engine for nannies, nurseries, events for children.

Accepted. Why?
The solution best suits the needs of parents. It enables them to find childcare, and thus free time for personal development.

STOP!!! Where is nanny's perspective?

  • What problems do nannies grapple with in their daily routine work?
  • How can we improve the process of finding care for a child by a parent?
  • How to make it easier for nannies to cooperate with families?

Research
We made desktop research of nanny's market. We also conducted a survey on a group of 14 people working as nannies in Poznań, including 8 students.

  • the will of employers living in the area
  • good communication with the parent, honesty and trust
  • information about his experience, effects of working with children, skills and known languages
  • recommendations are important

DELIVER

COLORS, TYPOGRAPHY, LOGO

We wanted our application to be warm and professional at the same time, to be associated with children, but not to exaggerate, because our users are parents and nannies. We have moved away from feminine pastel shades in favor of pleasant neutral colors.
